Sept. 11 – “South of the Border”

This is a slide show put together by Ken Kutz of mining covers from Mexico, Central America, and South America -- all the way to Tierra del Fuego. There are registered and airmail covers, covers with bisects, postcards of mines or mining facilities, and many rare and very interesting stamps and cancels. Do you have a cover in your collection with anything like the excitement of an original letter describing the murder of the writer’s mine foreman by the writer’s coachman? There is a 1902 cover from the Parral Mines in Mexico to Cornwall, England with such a letter and the news that the writer has a permit to witness the coachman’s execution in a few weeks.

We know Ken always has exceptional material and we cannot afford to miss the chance to see any of it. Please come out and bring a friend, you will be glad you did! It will be so good to see each other again after our 2 month hiatus.

Sept. 25: “What NOT to Do When Exhibiting”

Our own Paul Trapanese (member since Feb.’08) will be speaking about his “Trieste AMG-FTT**” exhibit which won a Silver-Bronze award at the APS StampShow 2008 at Hartford in mid-August. The focus of Paul’s talk will highlight what he learned “not to do” from the exhibit critique (and from the various exhibiting seminars he attended, that were given by the AAPE at StampShow 2008.) In addition, Paul will present some of his new acquisitions to improve the Trieste exhibit and will discuss a few new projects for exhibition. This is one program you will not want to miss!! Come and see Paul’s exhibit and hear his “true confessions.”
(** That means: ”American Military Government – Free Territory of Trieste”)

Regarding the next AUCTION:

Also, please remember our Club Auction coming up on October 9th. Why not check the collecting interests of our members listed in our roster, to see if you may have material that could be of interest to anyone and a source of income for you? September 25th, will be the last chance for your Auction Lots to be submitted to our Sales Mgr., John Lydecker. If you need supplies or other help such as cataloguing, please feel free to email John at : hawker1919@optonline.net

Two of our members exhibited at StampShow 2008 in Hartford. Maulik Thakkar won a Silver Medal for his exhibit entitled “Mahatma Gandhi – 1948 Memorial Issues”. Maulik says, “My score was 71/100, just 4 shy of a Vermeil. Hopefully next time!” We say, “Congratulations, Maulik! The single frame competition is keen and a Silver seems great to us!”

And of course, the other member was Paul Trapanese who will show us his exhibit on Sept. 25th, and tell us what he learned. “Congratulations to Paul! We know you made this exhibit a real learning experience and we are eagerly waiting to see it.”
