November

November 13: Jim Edwards will talk about The "Postal Fiscal" issues of Victoria. In 1883 the state of Victoria ( Australia ) decided to unify all of its stamps used for whatever purpose into a single series. Sounds reasonable. Imagine if the U.S. had done this. Your stamp sets thus run from 1/2 pence to 100 pounds. Have some fun looking at some "really" high value issues which were available for postal purposes although one high value would have covered an entire train car of mail. Of course today it would only cover a case of Foster's. Many of these issues remained available for fiscal purposes only after 1901 and these can be hard to distinguish. I'll probably need that case of Foster's just to cover it. Anyway - lots to look at, and hopefully I can answer any questions.

November 27th: There will be no meeting on the 4th Thursday of Nov. and we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

October Archive

Two of our members exhibited at StampShow 2008 in Hartford. Maulik Thakkar won a Silver Medal for his exhibit entitled “Mahatma Gandhi – 1948 Memorial Issues”. Maulik says, “My score was 71/100, just 4 shy of a Vermeil. Hopefully next time!” We say, “Congratulations, Maulik! The single frame competition is keen and a Silver seems great to us!”

Beginning Oct. 6, APS members will have the unprecedented online opportunity to take the Stamp Campus Keys to Exhibiting course taught by Janet Klug and Ann Triggle. Go to: http://www.stamps.org/Education/edu_October_Courses.htm#Keys
