    NEWS:

Our Annual Dinner was held on December 11, 2008 at the Red Barn, with all arrangements made by our member, Al Dolge. We had a great time and good food. For those who were not there, you missed a very nice evening and a bit of a surprise when Jerry Logan made a special presentation of our Golden Tongs Award and Lifetime Membership to Nanette Smith. All of you know Nan as our longtime Corresponding Secretary and Editor of the Post Rider for more years than anyone can remember. She has been extremely dedicated to the Club and to her specific responsibilities. All the Members of the Board agreed it was high time we let her know how much we appreciate all the years she very unselfishly dedicated herself to the Club and our benefit.

Nanette Smith sent us this note....

To all of the members of Ye Olde King's Highway Stamp Club.

I want to thank you for the "Golden" stamp tongs and the unique plaque that were given to me at the Christmas dinner. Such a surprise and a bit embarrassing. I do things for the club because I enjoy it not with any idea of a "reward". So again, thank you. And I hope 2009 will be a good year for the Club and all its members.

    Nanette

Ken Kutz's new LIMITED EDITION book is out! Ken's Award Winning Collection of Postal Mining History has been lovingly documented under the title: A LIFETIME TREASURE HUNT. Ken has copies available for sale and they are well worth the modest price he is charging just to cover his printing expenses. This is truly a treasure worth having in your library. Please contact Ken before they are all gone.

Calling all auction enthusiasts: We need to know what your interests are when it comes to auction material. Please contact John Lydecker at hawker1919@optonline.net

Two of our members exhibited at StampShow 2008 in Hartford. Maulik Thakkar won a Silver Medal for his exhibit entitled “Mahatma Gandhi – 1948 Memorial Issues”. Maulik says, “My score was 71/100, just 4 shy of a Vermeil. Hopefully next time!” We say, “Congratulations, Maulik! The single frame competition is keen and a Silver seems great to us!”

Members have the unprecedented online opportunity to take the Stamp Campus Keys to Exhibiting course taught by Janet Klug and Ann Triggle. Go to: http://www.stamps.org/Education/edu_October_Courses.htm#Keys
